Research Aims

This study will document the experiences of parents and families in the context of their particular pathways to parenthood and will gain an insight into the prevalence of families who have been formed and/or are intending to be formed by non-traditional pathways to parenthood in Ireland and abroad to Irish parents.

It will also identify the range of issues faced by those who have used forms of conception arrangements which are not currently or were not previously recognised in Irish law (e.g. prior to the commencement of the CFRA in 2020). These include the use of known donors; home insemination; surrogacy; foreign births and international surrogacy arrangements.
